Description
This is a sketch I did a couple days ago while reading Susan Kay's "Phantom" (that book is seriously like my Bible). The top shows a cartoonish, rather Tim Burton-esque five-year-old Erik nervously twisting a napkin around his fingers as he asks his mother for the only birthday present he wants more than anything in the entire world: two kisses. She refuses vehemently, and he is very sad (not to mention scarred for life!).
The bottom is an idee fixe Katu and I came up with, ages ago, in which Erik returns to his mother's house at the age of about 30 or so, and demands his withheld birthday present of so many years ago, hence, "You owe me...". This is just a doodle and will remain a doodle. I probably should tuck it away in scraps, but whatever. I like it, for the most part. Yay! for almost-incest!

I can't believe I started crying when I saw this... Brilliant! I love the Tim burton style and the tears welling in his eyes... Made tears well in MY eyes! And the last picture... "You owe me..." Oh... Just amazingly powerful... And angry. It's almost paradoxical that he is aggressive and possessive as an adult, yet is going back to his mother for a kiss; almost like he wants it, but can't admit to himself that it is the want of a five-year-old. Oh, Erik... I'm not sure why I came up with that... But... Yeah. AMAZING DRAWING!
