I'm on a bit of an Erik kick at the moment having just received my copy of Susan Kay's "Phantom" in the mail <33. It's the only tangible one I've ever read. I'm very excite. I think this will be my third time reading it all.
It was actually based on a picture of Jin from Samurai Champloo. This is not the first time I've used his pale, thin self as a model for Kay!Erik. I think he works nicely.

People ask me how I could ever love the Phantom, how I could ever love Erik. He is a murderous man who loves to kill. He is seriously crazy to put it in the simplest of terms. He is also not attractive in the least. But, when you learn that he had to live with a mother's hatred, the guilt of putting every one he cares for in danger, and the knowing fact that only animals care for him shows that it is sort of justified for what he has done. No, what he did is not right, but he was raised to learn that he is ugly and that no body would love him because of it. So, to keep people from getting close he had to drive them away at any means possible, only allowing people to be close to him if it suited his needs. Nadir was the only exception because he never left Erik's side.
